Client: Trading Direct
Background: In 1997 we provided web graphics for this firm
in the discount brokerage business. As the sector was growing, the
company was encouraged to use banner ads to attract traffic. Could
we come up with a theme for the campaign and produce it?
Analysis: The firm name provided its own theme. Playing
on the word direct, we came up with a set of banners tailored to
the tastes of the presumed audience: young, aggressive and predominantly
male investors with a bit of money looking to make more.
Process: The verbal theme was obvious: the word Direct was
used for all headlines. We rendered arrows hitting a target, a baseball
player slugging a ball, a tank firing, and other ideas. A banner
showing a plane dropping bombs was rejected.
Ourcome: The campaign ran on investment oriented web sites
for over a year. As the market changed, passion for both this approach
to investing and this method of advertising has waned.
